Lion Sanctuary Farm
Bagamoya Wildlife Estate is a lion sanctuary farm, ideally situated about 25km from the Bloemfontein International Airport and 35km from the centre of the City of Bloemfontein, Free State Province, South Africa. A beautiful getaway place, where you get the chance to move around in the African bush, and view the African wildlife in a way that will leave you captivated.
Volunteers who join our projects, get wildlife experience and most importantly: they make huge contributions through their effort and time. You can get so much more than a typical safari experience at Bagamoya… here, you interact, raise, feed, rehabilitate and live among the wildlife of Africa!
The aim of our volunteering program is to observe, work and spend time with animals from all over the world. Most animals at Bagamoya are hand-reared. There is daily interaction with all of the animals.
Main activities: raising of cubs (lion, tiger, caracal, cheetah, serval, monkey, …), building of camps, fencing, cleaning of camps, irrigation, nursery, plant trees, … .
When there are baby-cubs, whatever type of animal, the volunteers will have responsibility to feed the babies on the set hourly basis provided on a schedule.
This stunning working holiday will give also give you access to a wide range of optional activities.
For example: canoeing on the Modderriver at Bagamoya Wildlife Estate, horse riding, visit to city for relaxation, bootcamps and fully equipped gym, fishing, walking trails between our game, slips-and-slices, teambuilding, … .
Volunteers work 6 days a week, with 1 day all to themselves, where they will be driven to wherever they want to go. Working times are 8 am – 5 pm. If you are working in the restaurant, the hours may vary.
R5 000 per week includes:
• Food: 3 meals per day and one drink per meal*
• Project related transport and other transport and fuel costs
• Wi-Fi an hour per day at certain times specified
*Other food, drinks and extras – like laundry (R100 for washing, ironing and folding) or room cleaning (R100 for room or R150 for chalets) – have to be paid separately.

They are situated at the lion-camps at the main house. All rooms involve volunteers to share: 2 per room.
